Moorman surprised with Melvin Jones Award
In 1917, a Chicago businessman named Melvin Jones pursuaded the club he lunched with to join with other clubs to form a national organization that could benefit the community and network at the same time. The group placed value on service above profit and membership in the Lions Club grew rapidly. Reprinted from The Liberty Vindicator Liberty Lions visit Texas Lions Camp Recently 4 Liberty Lions traveled to Kerrville to work at the Texas Lions Camp. They joined 390 other Texas Lions for the weekend to prepare the camp for summer campers. The Texas Lions Camp is a camp for children with physical disabilities and for diabetic children. Liberty Lion Jesse Lopez caught Lion Chris Moorman off guard Monday night when he awarded Moorman the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. Moorman said he participates in the Lions Club for the fun of it and never expected an award.
The Liberty Lions with the help of the scouts in Liberty Troop 56 put up 220 flags along SH 321 between Palms Memorial Park and US 90 in honor of Staff Sgt. Jesse Wayne Ainsworth.
